Royal Mail first class post
Many of our customers use first class post for delivery. While we hope your package will arrive the next day this is not at all guaranteed: Royal Mail say first class post should reach 95% of UK destinations by the next day, but we all know this isn’t so. We assume first class post will take 1-3 days, but some items do go ‘missing’ in the post and never arrive at all. Naturally we will send another item if yours does not arrive, but we must allow at least 10 days for the original to get through before sending another.
If it is important that your item definitely arrives when you need it, we suggest you do not rely on 1st class post but use Special Delivery or UPS instead.
Royal Mail Special Delivery
Special Delivery (Royal Mail) is generally reliable for next day small consignments, especially to residential addresses. Orders received by 1600 are usually depatched on that day for delivery on the next business day. We use the ‘Before 1.00pm’ service; packages may come with normal mail deliveries, or separately, depending on local practice. SD’s sent on Fridays are very often delivered to residential addresses on Saturday, but the guarantee is the following Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a Public Holiday.) If you require guaranteed delivery on Saturday then call us to arrange - £3 surcharge payable.
This delivery schedule will be affected by Public Holidays.
If someone will be at the delivery address on the delivery day, fine. If not -
- you can give us a delivery address where Royal Mail can obtain a signature - maybe your workplace, a partner’s workplace, a friend, relation or neighbour
- or tell us when someone will be at the delivery address (Monday - Friday) and we’ll have it delivered then.
UPS
UPS are generally very good and reliable; delivery is at any time during the working day.
The service we use is nominally 1-2 days to keep costs manageable, but in our experience any package despatched to an address in England, Wales and at least as far north as the Scottish central belt including Fife and Stlrling is usually delivered on the next business day. A signature is required; if nobody is able to sign for your order they will try again on the next day. You can collect from the UPS depot but it might be many miles away.
TNT Express
We use the regular Express service, delivered before 1700, and need to receive orders for TNT despatch by 1400 for same day despatch. Deliveries are usually in the morning, sometimes in the early afternoon, and just occasionally in the late afternoon. The driver will need to obtain a signature; if there will not be anyone at the delivery address to receive the shipment:
- you can give us an alternative address where the driver can obtain a signature - maybe your workplace, a partner’s workplace, a friend, relation or neighbour
- or tell us when someone will be at the delivery address (Monday - Friday) and we’ll have it delivered then.
